Seed Oils, Fluoride, and Hydrogen Water: What You Should Know About What’s Going Into Your Body

In today’s health-conscious world, many of us are turning to whole foods, natural remedies, and cleaner habits to optimize how we feel, think, and move. But as we learn more about nutrition and longevity, we also uncover some troubling truths about what we’re regularly putting into our bodies—often without even knowing it. From inflammatory seed oils to fluoride in our water, and the emerging benefits of hydrogen-infused water, it’s time to take a closer look at the everyday substances that might be harming—or helping—us.
The Silent Inflammation of Seed Oils: Seed oils like canola, soybean, corn, and sunflower oil are found in everything—from salad dressings to seemingly “healthy” protein bars. These industrially processed oils are marketed as heart-healthy, but the science tells a different story. Most seed oils are high in omega-6 polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs), which in excessive amounts can throw off the body’s omega-6 to omega-3 balance. This imbalance contributes to chronic inflammation—an underlying cause of numerous modern diseases, including heart disease, obesity, autoimmune disorders, and even neurodegenerative conditions. As Dr. Gary Brecka explains, “Seed oils are one of the most inflammatory things we put in our bodies. They oxidize quickly, especially when heated, and that oxidative stress is what drives aging, disease, and dysfunction in nearly every system in the body” (Brecka, 2023). But the real kicker is what happens when these oils are heated. They oxidize and create harmful byproducts like aldehydes and trans fats. These compounds wreak havoc at the cellular level, damaging DNA, triggering immune responses, and accelerating aging. It’s a slow, silent burn—and we’re eating it by the spoonful every day.
Fluoride: A Neurotoxin in Our Water Supply: Fluoride has been added to public water supplies for decades under the guise of preventing tooth decay. But what many don’t know is that fluoride is a known neurotoxin—and this isn’t fringe science. The Lancet Neurology, one of the world’s most respected medical journals, classified fluoride as a developmental neurotoxin, in the same category as lead, arsenic, and mercury (Grandjean & Landrigan, 2014). Multiple studies have linked high fluoride exposure to reduced IQ in children, as well as increased risks of thyroid dysfunction, skeletal fluorosis, and cognitive impairment. In a significant policy shift, Utah became the first state in the U.S. to ban fluoride in public drinking water. Governor Spencer Cox signed legislation in March 2025 that prohibits cities and communities from adding fluoride to their water systems, emphasizing individual choice and concerns over potential health risks. And here’s the thing: we’re not being given a choice. Most municipal water systems still fluoridate water despite growing evidence of harm, and the dose isn’t tailored to body weight, age, or individual health. It’s mass medication without informed consent.
Hydrogen Water: A Simple Boost with Powerful Potential:
On the flip side, hydrogen-rich water is gaining attention for its potential to counter oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and support overall wellness. Unlike the questionable additives in our food and water, molecular hydrogen (H₂) is a therapeutic antioxidant that selectively targets harmful free radicals without disturbing essential cellular processes. Dr. Gary Brecka has praised its therapeutic potential, stating, “Hydrogen water is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce oxidative stress in the body. It protects your mitochondria, improves energy, and supports recovery at the cellular level” (Brecka, 2024). Studies suggest that drinking hydrogen water may help: reduce markers of inflammation, improve mitochondrial function, enhance athletic performance and recovery, and support cognitive health and mood. It’s not a magic bullet, but it’s a low-risk, potentially high-reward habit that complements a clean diet and active lifestyle. Think of it as a gentle nudge toward homeostasis—helping your body do what it was designed to do, just a little better.
The Bottom Line: Seed oils, fluoride, and hydrogen water might seem like unrelated topics, but they share a common theme: they reveal the importance of paying attention to what we consume every day. Inflammation, neurotoxicity, and oxidative stress don’t always make headlines—but they quietly shape the quality of our health over time. If we can minimize harmful inputs like seed oils and fluoride while integrating beneficial ones like hydrogen water, we shift the balance back in our favor. Health isn't just about what you do—it's about what you avoid and what you empower your body with. Knowledge is power. And in this case, it’s also protection.
